Reps

clipped from pitchfork.com

"[Grizzly Bear is] an incredible band. The thing I want to say to everyone-- I hope this happens because it will push rap, it will push hip-hop to go even further-- what the indie rock movement is doing right now is very inspiring. It felt like us in the beginning. These concerts, they're not on the radio, no one hears about them, and there's 12,000 people in attendance. And the music that they're making and the connection they're making to people is really inspiring. So I hope that they have a run where they push hip-hop back a little bit, so it will force hip-hop to fight to make better music. Because it can happen. Because that's what rap did to rock.

"We have, ourselves, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able to defend our Internets, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. Even though large parts of Internets and many old and famous trackers have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Ifpi and all the odious apparatus of MPAA rule, we shall not flag or fail."

"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the ef-nets and darknets, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Internets, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the baywords.org, we shall fight on the /. and on the digg, we shall fight in the courts; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, the Internets or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the Anon Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in Cerf’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Era

clipped from pitchfork.com

Considering all the new music we have to sort through so far in the 21st century, we've sure been focusing an awful lot lately on two of the biggest stars of the 20th. Decades after their respective popular peaks, recent events reminded us, neither the Beatles nor Michael Jackson have loosened their grip on our imagination. Yet one particular thing I noticed amidst the nostalgia surrounding the latest (and likely last) Beatles CD reissues, and Jackson's sudden passing was a sense of resignation that the eras within which both stars emerged seem highly unlikely to happen again. The Beatles, in 1963-64 and 1967, and Michael Jackson in 1983-4 arguably represented for pop music what World Cups, the Olympics, and Super Bowls do for sports, and what blockbuster summer hits do for movies: the ability to command everyone's attention at once.

Changeling

So a lot's been going on lately. Spencer, Eileen, and Kevin all have birthdays this month. Oh and Keving is no longer M.I.A. but on a bus from Arizona here to San Diego tonight all situations nonwithstanding.

I'm moving out for the first time in my life (finally) August 30th after I help the Eileen and her roomies move into a new place of their own. On a side note; Eileen's got the master bedroom this time! Two sinks, woo! Haha.

Need to shave then head out to work at four..

Around three spins in and it's growing on me. Favorite songs so far are Nice Girls, Severin, Eat Flesh, and We Are Water.

Fiesta

I'm in the kneeling position, praying Eileen's birthday in two days is in absolutely no way a bust. Trying to get savings together to move out while Eileen and I have been on an odd and unsuccessful break had made this whole birthday thing tough. She's been wanting an electric keyboard to play piano and since I have a relatively new and unused one I figured I'd just solve the problem it has and give it to her.. Which would be fine until I split the thing open today only to find out the problem is beyond me.

I'm taking Eileen out to fondue in La Jolla which should be nice and then I figured I'd by a nice bottle of wine and we could park and lie atop my car by the airport and drink under the flight path of landing planes. I found a full 88-key MIDI controller I'm ordering for her but I wonder how a week lates going to fly? I swear I'm trying, haha.

Love,
Endi

Voyage

Played at Tin Can Ale House the other night and they had some rad cheap drinks, yes, via bottle/can. It's that last show HFICLSI is going to be playing for a few months and something of a relief for me at this point.

Movies

I'm trying to be patient at 4:38AM looking forward to getting high and watching Spirited Away when it finishes downloading. I feel like my whole life I've never watched movies. I mean, I've grown up watching most of the main ones of whatever I was into at the time but I've never seen any of the 'classics'. I feel naive, thank heaven for the torrent file. :)
